Air Con & Heating DIY & Troubleshooting
AIR CON NOT TURNING ON OR ERROR CODE DISPLAYED
Like most electrical appliances, one of the most effective, yet surprisingly simple troubleshooting tricks is to simply turn the appliance off, let it sit for a minute and then turn back on.
​
There should be a switch near the outdoor unit or in the power box where this can be done.
If this doesn’t fix it, we’ll need to organise a technician to solve this one. Be sure to note your Error Code (if one is displayed) when lodging your repair.
AIR CON NOT WORKING PROPERLY
If you feel like your Air Con just isn’t working like it’s supposed to, the first thing to do is to make sure your filters are clean. This video will help you through that process.
OTHER HANDY HINTS​

If your area is experiencing a severe weather event, say a heat wave. Then no matter how new the air con is, how clean the filters are, there is only so much the machines can do. If it’s 45 degrees outside, it’s unlikely that the air con unit will be able to get the inside temp down to your desired 22 degrees (no matter how hard it tries).

In this scenario, you can try a few extra tips…

TIP 1
Start Cooling Earlier
Try and get ahead of the heat a little. If you know it’s going to be a seriously hot day, close blinds and turn your air con on to start cooling the place a little earlier than usual. This will create a cooler thermal mass which will assist in keeping the place cooler for that bit longer and help you manage your way through the hottest part of the day.

TIP 2
Prioritise rooms to cool
Instead of trying to cool the entire house. Just pick the most important rooms that you will use that day. Use your Zones on your control panel if you have them and close doors to bathrooms and other areas that can go without cooling.

TIP 3
Run a sprinkler or hose around the outdoor unit
This will cool the air around the outdoor unit and enable it to start cooling air from a lower temperature which will in turn assist it to deliver cooler air to the indoor area.

TIP 4
Sanity Check
If you’re frustrated that the Air Con just doesn’t seem to be working, the best way to check is to go outside for a few minutes, and then come back in. If it’s working you should be able to notice the difference.
​
Remember, an Air Conditioner does just that… it conditions the air. It is not a freezer so in extreme weather events these machines just can’t work as well as they would usually.
